United Way of Broome County is a non-profit organization that fights for healthy communities, youth opportunity, and financial security across Broome County. The organization works in partnership with community organizations and members to drive change that will have positive impact on the critical needs of the community. POSITION SUMMARY STATEMENT: This position is responsible for providing support within the Community Initiatives & Planning Department. The primary role of the Community Initiatives Associate is to support the Director of Community Initiatives & Planning by assisting with the daily administrative activities which advance the United Way of Broome County’s (UWBC) Community Impact (CI) business model. Additionally, the CI Associate will work to develop program management systems to sustainably operate pilot initiatives, such as the county-wide hygiene hub. They are responsible for working in partnership with United Way staff, community-based organizations, funded community partners, community coalitions, school districts, donors, the general public, and other stakeholders to ensure effective communication and trust between all parties. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Community Initiatives • Represent United Way at community events, forums, planning meetings, and work groups as assigned by the Director. • Develop strong collaborative relationships within the community, with a focus on those organizations whose work aligns with UWBC priorities. • Prepare all necessary documents for committee meetings including, but not limited to: Partner Accountability; Capacity; Emergency; and Impact Councils. • Coordinate the dissemination of information about all the initiative’s activities, events, and progress with the Director of Community Relations and Development. • Under the direction of the Community Initiatives and Planning Director, oversee the application development process for all CI funding opportunities including, but not limited to: Strategic Community Grants Program; Capacity Building Grant Program; and the Emergency Grant Program. This includes ensuring the timely dissemination of funding applications and contracts, reporting, evaluation, and data management. • Work with the UWBC team to develop and maintain all funding and grant agreements/MOUs pertaining to grants received and grants awarded. • Coordinate all aspects of the RFP and grant review process which includes, but is not limited to: providing technical assistance to community funded partners; scheduling and facilitating all Impact Council Review Committee meetings; and scheduling all site visits. • Under the direction of the Community Initiatives and Planning Director, review and respond to inquiries from community-based organizations and funded partners including, but not limited to: grant opportunities; reporting requirements; payments; site visits; budget modifications; and compliance issues in a timely and appropriate fashion. • Assist with coordinating the annual Partnering for a Purpose Conference and other professional development and networking opportunities for area nonprofits throughout the year. Pilot Initiatives • Lead the development of pilot initiatives as assigned including but not limited to a county-wide hygiene hub. • Research examples of organizations leading similar initiatives to understand best practices. • Develop program management procedures to guide operations, qualification process, data management, and budget management when applicable. • Coordinate and supervise volunteers and interns in support of the operations of the initiative. • Collaborate with the Fund Development and Grants Administration Coordinator to research and develop grant proposals to support the long-term sustainability of the initiative. Organizational Needs • Perform other duties as assigned by the Director to support the effective operation of UWBC, including the work of the Healthy Lifestyles Coalition as assigned. QUALIFICATIONS Qualified candidates for the position will possess the following: Education and Experience Required: • Preferred: Bachelor’s Degree in human development, social work, or a related field with experience in Microsoft products including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access. Familiarity with other technology is helpful. • Accepted: Associate’s Degree with at least two years of experience in the human services field.
